Taking photographs for over 10 years now, Berlin-born-and-bred freelance photographer Frank Machalowski prefers to shoot with film not only because he enjoys the process that comes with taking photos, developing films, and printing, but also because he loves the look and atmosphere that only films can yield. And his passion for film photography shows in his black-and-white photographs of landscapes and urban spaces, carefully and painstakingly using different techniques like multiple and long exposures, and creating moody yet inviting city and countryside scenes that make you wish that you live in his photographs. And he’s Whattaroll’s “Hero of the Week”!
“The photo (above) is part of my latest series called ‘monster’. Here, I show long-exposure photographs of people pouring through the streets as ghostly traces of a moving mass, making them seem almost menacing, like a faceless monster.” – Frank Machalowski
