Showcasing a natural fondness for female portraiture, today’s special roll comes from the very capable hands of photographer Mandi K. Smith from Southern California, USA. Experimenting with a roll of Lomography’s LomoChrome Turquoise film and shooting with the classic Canon AE-1 camera, she skillfully captured the playful elegance and beauty of her muse, rendering her and her surroundings in strikingly otherworldly tones.
We briefly caught up with Mandi and asked her about the shoot:
“These photos were taken in the pool at my apartment building really early in the morning. The pool wasn’t even open so we had to climb over the fence and keep quiet so we wouldn’t wake anyone up. We went with the intention of using regular color film to get some shots with light from the sunrise, and I thought I’d throw in this roll of Turquoise just to try it out.”
When asked to share her thoughts on what makes a great set of shots, she answered:
“I think good chemistry with your subject is the key element in good portraits. If your subject isn’t comfortable, the pictures will be lacking.”
